You've been Mummified

After reading this essay and listening to what some people in the class had to say I still disagree with it strongly. Yes, some parents use their kids as an excuse, but what about the ones that don't? How will we ever know which mother is dependable or not just by judging them all by one's mistakes. It isn't right, but people continue to judge either way. From personal experience my mom was a single mother for 8 years; it was just me and her. She worked hard, took care of me, finished school and took care of the house all on her own. Yes, she had help from others in the family, but when you make decisions on your own you have to live with them. Even to this day she is married with three kids (well 5 if you include our two dogs), but she still works, takes care of my siblings and keeps the house together. As I always state it goes back to how one was born and how she was brought up. This makes a huge impact in every situation. The writer should have written from both perspectives. It sounds to me like he is discriminating against all mothers. The writer also sounds as if he had problems with his mother as a child that he takes it out on everyone else. Some single mothers need to work and have no choice, but to work in order to make sure her family is being taken care of. For the ones that are fine with living off well-fare just goes back to America being so LAZY. Its hard to change peoples opinions when others continue to prove them right.

The Wal-Mart You Don't Know

After reading about the things that take place at our local Wal-Marts it made me wonder. Am I being ripped off or what? I could stop shopping there, but being a college student it is so convenient for me. It is cheaper than grocery stores and they carry literally everything. Knowing that they get things for such a cheap price and sell them to us for a cheap price is hard to believe. I always get mad when I think it is hard for me to get a job, but it seems that Wal-Mart is the blame. By them not purchasing things from manufacturers in the US and purchasing them from places overseas is hurting us with jobs. This is the reason that people are taking their businesses overseas it is the only way they can sell them. I would stop purchasing things from Wal-Mart, but what would that do? Everyone wouldn't follow my trend. I could buy things from Costco & Sam's, but they are probably doing the same thing Wal-Mart does.

Still Not Tired

After reading "Still not Tired" I can honestly say I am a firm believer in most of things I read. I loved the discussion in class today. I think a lot of things that were said were very informative and everyone had good points and views. The US as a whole lacks a lot of things LOYALTY is one of them. I say this because we are brought up differently from other countries. We are taught to be loyal to our families and people around us. Other countries are taught to be loyal to the whole country and the person in charge. We as a whole have a problem with showing loyalty to who is in charge. People only see color they don't see it as being loyal. Osama was a leader and everyone worshiped him, looked up to him and respected everything he said. I strongly feel that we will never hear the end of war or Osama. Reason being is because of the loyalty his country shares and shows. It isn't just him. He isn't in this alone. It is people in line ready to take over plans that he has created and follow through with what he believes in. Although there are a few that do not show the same loyalty as the rest of the people and have the tendency to sneak through the holes and provide the US with valuable information. There are very few of those. Reading this section I found out a lot of informative things. I never knew that there were bombings going on every where. I also never knew that Muslims were recruiting people to help plan these attacks. After reading this section and answering the questions I resorted back to my favorite song "Words I Never Said" bu Lupe Fiasco. I understood the song much more. Everything Lupe stated in this song I believe is true in some ways.

Writing an Argument

"Writing an Argument," involves the use of prior knowledge, explaining evidence, illustrating what you already know, informing, proving a point and taking sides to make an argument. Papers using argumentation is the most common form of writing in college classrooms. In order to develop an argument you must take a position in order to convince your audience. I enjoy writing arguments, because I like to argue. Using more contents and finding more topics helps me get my point across in my argument  Knowing that nobody is seen to be wrong helps us get a understanding from not only our point, but others as well. I engage in class discussions and always feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This particular form and style of writing gives us as students an opinion and the chance to express them without being incorrect. The way the argument is supposed to be structured allows us to state a thesis, using background information, establishing our position to the topic.

Impact of Media Violence

After reading "Impact of Media Violence" I agree to a certain extent. The way the media effects us as individuals is based on how we are as people. As read in the book it is stated that one says media is the reason certain people react the way they do. I feel that if you are a weak-minded person then the media can have some type of affect on your actions; oppose to being a strong-minded person. One that may be going through a lot may be easily influenced and may do what is seen in the media as revenge to what has been done to them. Every one is taught "right from wrong" as a child; if you continue to follow what you have learned is on you. Going back to the discussion is class, everyone including adults have copied at least one thing they've seen while watching some type of media. Yes, some media is used for entertainment, but we have to realize that it is for entertainment purposes only. We see things and become enthused about it and try things that we shouldn't try. As I had discussed in class as a child "WWE" was a big piece of media entertainment; every show I would tune in and be glued to the television. Watching the news once I learned that a woman had been arrested and charged with child neglect, because her children had tried to reenact a scene from "WWE". One child had a broken jaw at the end of the day. That is a specific way media can be considered negative. Also as a child I watched a lot of "Barney, Elmo, Sesame Street and Dragon tales"; I was taught my ABC's, 123's and much more informative information after watching these shows. This is a positive affect of media. All media isn't bad media and all media doesn't have a negative media impact. As far as the media that includes violence; I feel that it depends on the person and the circumstance. Everyone knows right from wrong. It is up to the person whether they want to do right or wrong. The same people may do the sane crimes without watching violence or playing video games.

Play the Race Card

After actually reading Play the Race Card and listening to the in class discussion  I agree completely with the writer. I still believe that we "African-Americans" give others reason to downgrade us and speak of us in a negative way. People pass judgement all the time. Once one African-American messes up it ruins the image for the rest of us. The media targets African-Americans all the time. It's as if we have a bull-eye on our foreheads. Being an African-American and coming through a predominantly black school I often found times that things that occurred at my school that were wrong always made the news, but the good things never saw light. As oppose to being a student at a predominantly white school everything that glittered was gold and published in the newspaper and on TV  Anything they did that was to be seen as negative never seen light. It was opposite and no matter the race it shouldn't be that way. The reason we stick to sports is because that is all we get recognized in. Seeing LeBron, Kobe, Ray Lewis, Tiger Woods, Brendan Hayward, and lots more professional athletes do good that is what we feel we have to resort to in order to get recognized it is we want.
