You've been Mummified
After reading this essay and listening to what some people in the class had to say I still disagree with it strongly. Yes, some parents use their kids as an excuse, but what about the ones that don't? How will we ever know which mother is dependable or not just by judging them all by one's mistakes. It isn't right, but people continue to judge either way. From personal experience my mom was a single mother for 8 years; it was just me and her. She worked hard, took care of me, finished school and took care of the house all on her own. Yes, she had help from others in the family, but when you make decisions on your own you have to live with them. Even to this day she is married with three kids (well 5 if you include our two dogs), but she still works, takes care of my siblings and keeps the house together. As I always state it goes back to how one was born and how she was brought up. This makes a huge impact in every situation. The writer should have written from both perspectives. It sounds to me like he is discriminating against all mothers. The writer also sounds as if he had problems with his mother as a child that he takes it out on everyone else. Some single mothers need to work and have no choice, but to work in order to make sure her family is being taken care of. For the ones that are fine with living off well-fare just goes back to America being so LAZY. Its hard to change peoples opinions when others continue to prove them right.
